Jacqueline Adams, MSW, MA, PhD Candidate

(She/They)

I am a pre-licensed clinical professional, and I love working with individuals, couples, and groups. I focus on LGBTQIA2S+ populations and those who have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, cultural traumas, grief, and/or substance (mis)use.

I use various therapeutic approaches and theories, such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness, feminist approaches, and narrative therapies. I value authenticity, autonomy, and vulnerability. I have been in clinical practice for two years, and I believe most humans need counseling, because setting aside time and space for ourselves in our culture is vital to our bodily and emotional wellness!

Investing in our emotional wellness can help us to heal, find new ways to define contentment, and build stronger relationships with ourselves and those around us. I serve clients by helping them to access their own agency while honoring the individual parts of ourselves that have various needs. I am an out queer professional and I love working with trans and gender nonconforming populations, women, and various populations with unique needs. I center safety, consent, and authenticity in my relationships with clients.

I have a BA in History and Women’s Studies, a MA in Social Responsibility and Sustainable Communities, and a graduate certificate in Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies from Western Kentucky University. I have a MSW and Graduate Certificate in Substance Use Counseling from the University of Georgia. And I am a Ph.D. Candidate in American Culture Studies at Bowling Green State University (BGSU).

Before I became a social worker, I worked with diverse populations of queer young adults on college campuses since 2012. I taught Gender and Women’s Studies, Cultural Studies, and Ethnic Studies at universities while working at two LGBTQ+ Resource Centers at BGSU and UGA. My wife and I have been educating and training social workers, educators, and nonprofits on cultural humility and trauma responsive best practices since 2012. In my free time, my wife and I enjoy gardening, cooking, and playing with our four rescue dogs! I value your commitment to seek out therapy and I look forward to accompanying you in healing!
